Climate Zones and World Climates
By admin · A beginner course on the patterns of the planet: what makes some places rainforests and others deserts, how latitude, oceans and mountains shape whole regions, and how the world's climate zones are defined, where they are, and how they are changing.
About this course
Why is the Amazon a rainforest and the Sahara a desert, when they sit on the same planet and the same seasons? The answer is climate: the long-term pattern of weather that each region experiences. This classroom explains the forces that set a region's climate, the sun, the latitude, the oceans, the mountains, and the prevailing winds, then tours the major climate zones of the world, from the steaming tropics to the frozen poles, and looks at the living landscapes, the rainforests, deserts, savannas and tundras, that each climate creates. It closes with how the world's climate zones are shifting as the planet warms, and what that means for the people, farms and wildlife that call each zone home.
